Food for thought for this year's Global Recycling Day on construction and demolition waste:
- In 2018, the UK generated 67.8 million tonnes of non-hazardous C&D waste, of which 62.6 million tonnes was recovered. This represents a recovery rate of 92.3% (UK Gov)
- The construction industry produces a huge amount of waste, construction, demolition and excavation accounted for an astonishing 62% of the UK's total waste in 2018 (DEFRA)
- Approximately 13% of materials delivered to a site can go direct to waste without being used.
The MSK Waste Management & Recycling Centre operates a state-of-the-art waste sorting line contributing to some of the highest recycling statistics in the UK today, the recycling facility processes 5,000-6,000 tonnes of mixed waste per month and achieves recycling rates up to 98% and we work with local communities and organisations reusing materials - but we can all always do more!!
